Question by e_yourwayup: Marriage cert. has errors. CA State says 7 mos.to amend. Legal n CA 2 marry same prson agn n get new cert?
Was married in CA 2/24/06. Marriage certificate has errors. Clerk mistyped entry, but I failed to notice it before signing. County clerk says it needs an “Affidavit to Amend a Marriage Record”. CA office of Vital Records says it will take them 7 months!. Need the corrected certificate “now”. If I marry the same person again (get a new license, marry again), the time it would take to get a new marriage certificate would only be one month… much shorter. Question: What’s the California legal basis for this action?

If there was a name error, and you try to correct it by “getting married” again, you may be subject to polygamy charges. Good luck. I would consult an attorney or the person that performed/documented the wedding.
